The Challenge

Firefly needed to reduce counter queuing at busy airports during peak hours. The airline also needed a way for passengers who had already checked in on mobile to collect physical boarding passes without waiting at the counter.

Our Solution

ME-Tech custom-designed and constructed the check-in kiosk end-to-end — including the metal enclosure housing all internal components, with an Android tablet as the main user interface. The kiosk integrates with Navitaire New Skies for real-time check-in processing.

A second function allows mobile check-in users to print their boarding pass simply by scanning a QR code at the kiosk. Initial deployment covered Subang, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kota Bharu airports, with additional local and international airports in planning.

Results

The kiosks are live at four Malaysian airports, reducing passenger queues at counters during peak periods. The QR boarding-pass print function closed the gap between mobile check-in and physical boarding-pass requirement at some gates.
